White fungus on Roses
It looks like even though I’ve sprayed my roses quite regularly, they managed to get a little fungus. It looks like white powder on the leaves of my roses. And, I think it might be the dreaded “Powdery Mildew“.
A fungus generally grows in damp conditions, which is quite bad, considering roses need water, which, if you’re not careful, can lead to damp leaves…

Silicon Bakeware
My wife made banana bread last night. That fact probably doesn’t interest you (though the banana bread was EXCELLENT. I’ll get the recipe for you if I can), but what is cool is that she used a silicon loaf tin. I’m not sure if you would call it a tin considering it’s made out of silicon, but anyway. She’s also got a silicon cookie tray.

Cleaning dirt marks off walls
If you have dirty (non-permanent) marks on your walls, then here’s a good way to clean them off…
But first, some of the ways that I’ve noticed these marks GET on the walls:
- Dogs rubbing up against the walls as they run past
- You sqaushed a mosquito on the wall, and now there’s a mark
- You tried to clean the mark on the wall, and only made it worse…
- While installing cupboards (or anything else) pencil marks were needed. Now they’re not…

Fathers Day Gift Ideas in South Africa

Because Father’s Day in South Africa is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in June, this year (2009) Fathers Day will be on June 21st. So don’t waste any time and start planning your surprises for your dad. Though I’m pretty sure there are VERY few people who will be reading this more than a week before Father’s Day 😉

Your webpage was quite helpful in understanding a situation where I had a kitchen invasion of maggots.
This is a summary:
Our home is built on a concrete foundation. The maggots were found coming out of a 1/3 inch gap between a ceramic tile floor and drywall behind the oven. I will leave out all the drama behind finding the source. I could not get to the nest of maggots so I had to let nature take its course.
Hot shot wasp killer with permethrin works to kill maggots, but it takes a long time to work. It is also a repellent. The drawback? Once the Hot Shot dries, it stops working as a repellent and killer. The maggots crawl right over the dried Hot Shot for Wasps. That is the only product that worked to kill.

OUTsurance and Vehicle Tracking Devices
There’s an interesting story over at Wheels24 titled “Tracking devices explained”.
In nice, simple English it explains the differences between the different vehicle tracking devices and how installing one can affect your insurance premium. They also talk about the benefits of each tracking company (such as Matrix, Tracker, Netstar, etc.), how much each one costs for installation and it’s monthly subscription.
Here’s what they say regarding OUTsurace:
Having a tracking system in your car also has insurance benefits. Outsurance will not insure your car if it is not fitted with a tracking device and if the value of your car exceeds R200 000. Pick Outsurance and they cover the initial installation costs.
My car doesn’t cost that much, but I do believe I got a discounted premium on my car insurance because I use the Matrix Vehicle Tracking unit. And, call me paranoid, but I don’t mind leaving my car anywhere.

Satellite Tracking
Gear Lock
Immobiliser
So, that’s pretty safe. Not 100% safe, but pretty safe. 🙂
